### What changes when you stop watching time pass and begin noticing yourself in motion?

I have been thinking about time. And mostly about how I experience the movement of time.

In a sense, time is about a quantitative assessment within a framework of measuring motion. A clock. A watch, the burning of a candle. The mechanism is geared toward assessing the passing of time through motion. Tick, tick, tick. Time is passing.

But other than the mechanism, what has moved? Is the clock simply reflecting the motion of its gears or is there a deeper connection?

I'm not going to immediately say that I am making sense -- because, inside, my brain is curiously cautious at what I am trying to get to in my understanding.

This wondering bit started when I challenged myself several months ago to see if I could create awareness within me of the Earth moving through the solar system. Yes, there are clocks and calendars which measure and report the movement. But these aren't the motion directly of either myself or the Earth. These are mechanisms based on assumptions about time's motion and the movement of physical objects within the perspective of time.

I am pointing to an active motion on my part. Not it was 10am and now my clock say 2pm so based on the laws of physics and my understanding of how the world works, then I have just passed through space standing on the Earth as the Earth is now in a different position within the solar system.

As I consider whether or not I am slightly loony tunes, I realize that what I am doing is shifting a point of reference for my active involvement in my life.

Using the clock to understand motion is second hand. (hehehe) Meaning it is not direct experience.

Trying to tap into another layer of my awareness to experience the motion directly is a different perspective.

This is part of the reason I set up my calendar a while back following the motion of the moon. If you notice, the posts in *Notes from the Edge* are made on what I think of as a day of crossing: new, quarter, full, three-quarter. Repeat.

And while there is still a bit of a remove in this point of reference, it was the best I could do to shift away from the second hand nature of the mechanism and the direct, first experience of my own being.

Another motivation is a realizing that one of the ways I have dealt with the crap in my life over the last 3 to 4 years is to pull back, hold back, take the back seat. As a protective mechanism, it's not a bad choice. As a continuing choice, there are issues worth considering.

I am not finished with the consideration -- I am simply checking assumptions. Do I have to live with motion through a clock? Do I have to always be a spectator of my own life. And if I want to shift either, what's the path?

I don't have a long list of solutions because I am still hanging with a decision I made last November which is to try as best as possible to live in the moment. Which for my futuristic self, who likes to create infinite layers of plans and ideas and more plans, keeping focus to now is a definite challenge.

I will report, though, that the moment thing has the benefit of helping with the unknown thing. In other words, if in this moment, I don't know, I am now a lot more forgiving of myself and way more patient that the next motion will not necessarily be filled with chaotic motion and doomed possibility.

And here we are back at time. For the present moment, time is always now. And my awareness of motion becomes how my awareness of now shifts from moment to moment.

### Some books arrive when the time is right.

Over the last week, I have taken time to focus in on a book project that has been one of the main looms I have crafted over the last 6 months or so. To me it feels time for these books to arrive.

[***Question the Fcking Assumption***](https://www.cherylmarlene.com/question-the-fcking-assumption/) is about dealing with the overloading of authority and certainty. A book born from my struggles with thinking I needed to give up my knowing to someone who claims to know me better than I know myself.

Because I have had so much fun putting together my ideas for this book, I have created two companion books which will publish at the same time as part of the *Good Girls Rebellion* series. [***Good Girls' Field Guide to Bullshit Behaviors***](https://www.cherylmarlene.com/good-girls-field-guide-to-bullshit-behaviors/) comes complete with the typical bits of reference in a field guide such as common habitat, typical language, and frequent overlording tendencies. The third companion is [***Auntie Oracle***](https://www.cherylmarlene.com/auntie-oracle/)*,* a book of questions to outsmart the noise and reclaim your knowing. Think of that cool aunt sitting quietly at family dinner whispering truth in your ear and has no desire to tell you how to run your life. These are her questions for you.

I also am putting together a new band of merry advanced readers. If you are interested in reading my books before publication, giving me feedback, and then writing reviews in 3 or 4 key locations -- and you are willing to stick within my time requirements, reply to this email, please. Typically I hope to give you 7 to 10 days to respond and will provide more time for longer bits. Some books, I will send out several chapters at a time.

Serving two purposes, here's the *Prelude* for ***Question the F\*cking Assumption***: [**The Sound of My Questioning**](https://www.cherylmarlene.com/the-sound-of-my-questioning/). Gives you idea about the book and about how I share new writing in my newsletter, [***Notes from the Edge***](https://www.cherylmarlene.com/notes/).

Time is on our side.

In Joy!
